This company always has a booth at TMEA - I have purchased 3 shirts from them. I love their designs and they have just about anything you could want - music or otherwise. Try them out! They are located in McKinney, TX. -- Melissa Wainman
--------------------------------------
Try catalogues - there's one called The Music Stand that has music-related stuff - clothes, accessories, home decor, etc. It's here on the web: http://www.themusicstand.com/ Also, try Friendship House: https://secure.friendshiphouse.com/music.html - I've gotten a t-shirt and other music-related accessory-type things from them. I get tons of catalogues at school, including Friendship House, and others like Music In Motion might have that kind of thing, too. I have a canvas tote bag that I got at GMEA several years ago that matches the shirt I got from Friendship House, and I think it came from the Music In Motion booth. -- Ann Wells

Nodes/Nodules(add to catgory and index) Stanton's Sheet Music in Columbus, Ohio has an awesome one that says "E=Fb: Einstein's Theory for Musicians" I'm sure if you called them, they could send it to you. www.stantons.com -- Stephanie in OH

12/09 One of the more affordable options also had neat designs and color choices. imagemarket.com. Our shirts are denim colored, with white and red printing that say "I (heart) Music" with musical symbols within the letters. Then personalized with our school name. The kids love them and I even had 2 teachers and a parent want to order them. 8 bucks a piece, no tax and no shipping! ---- Stacie Devaney
I used Image Market last year and I was very pleased! I especially liked their designs. They are very current and kids like them! Our shirts said "MUSIC" and it looked like the AC/DC logo with the "S" as the lighteningbolt. I'd also recommend them.

We design a T-Shirt every summer for the musical we do at our church. We use a
local company...draw it up...computer graphics and all...and they print it.
They help with design ideas and special effects and they always turn out
great. I say...go for it on your own!! It's
fun!
----------------------
06/22/02 I have had considerable luck having
someone in my groups design a logo (we've had contests sometimes). Then, we
take it to a local screenprinter and choose the type of shirt we want and have
them screen it. My children's and youth choruses just use plain cotton t's,
but we have a design on the front and back, and we get them for $7.00 each.
The first time is always a little more expensive because you have to pay the
initial cost of cutting the screen, but we keep the design on the front the
same each time, so we don't have to have a new screen made for that one.
---------------
06/22/01 I have had the students in third grade second
semester purchase a 1inch/3-ring clearvue note to be used for fourth and fifth
grade. Also, they must have a pencil pouch, 2 new pencils, large pink eraser,
reinforcements, and 1 yellow highlighter.
----------------
7/01 We have
had success with khaki pants for performances during the year. We tell the
parents at the beginning of the year that we will be using them for all
performances. Those are very practical for school, etc.,and the parents don't
seem to mind supplying them. With a Tshirt, they really look very nice!
I
forgot to add that we have white T-shirts with red lettering, and a
jaunty-looking blue falcon holding a conductor's baton, and notes flying
around everywhere. The emblem was already here from the teacher before me, and
I'm really glad. It's neat.
----------------------------
7/01 One way
that we have dealt with thte problem ( kids just don't seem to have dress up
clothes anymore) is tht we try to costume, or go with a theme. If the proram
has a theme, we work out costumes or attire to match. Patriotic= Red, White
and blue clothes. We just did the play I Need A Vacation, and we all wore
various vacation attire. One year we all sore blue pants and made tie-dye
t-shirts in school colors. It looked really
neat!
---------------------
6/01 I don't know if budget is a problem for
you. What I have done to give my kids a bit of ZIP in their clothing (and no
ZAP to their parents' pocketbooks) is to go to a Formal Wear store (we have a
Paul Morrell here in Little Rock) and purchase their used satin vests, white
tux shirts and bow ties to match. Now the vests were $8.00 each (WOW), tux
shirts were $5.00 each and bow tie/cumberbund combo was $3.00 each. By the
way, the tux with tails were $5.00 each! (Also top hats were $10.00 each!).
Over the years I have accumulated quite alot of these. So, it may be an idea
to check out a big Formal Wear store in your area, see when the sale is, and
purchase CHEAPLY from them.
-----------------------
6/01 I have a middle
school Show Choir. They wear :
girls: black tux shorts, lapel tux vest,
white tux shirt, and silver ties
boys: black tux pants, the rest the same
as the girls
It looks real snazzy and the company I order from is Mirmont
Uniforms, 463 Brewster Ave.
Redwood City, CA 94063, 1-800-365-4886. They
also carry childrens sizes.
---------------------
6/01 At my Choral
reading workshop today I saw a wonderful middle school show choir, "The
Quartertones," perform. About 30 girls were wearing hot pink tee shirts with
"The Quartertones" in front and a cute nickname on the back ("Squirt,"
"Tweetie Pie" etc.) All were wearing black leggings and white socks with white
"Keds" type sneakers. They looked terrific. You can't do that on a moment's
notice, but they looked so good!
-----------------------
6/01 For one
of my show choirs (grade 4-5-6) I purchased bright red t-shirts for TWO
dollars a piece at a t-shirt outlet store. I found a very reasonable silk
screener and chose a musical motif (notes on a staff) and had them screen that
and the name of the school on each t. I bought a variety of larges and mediums
and some smalls. I paid about $200 in all for a choir of about 75. Then I
asked for donations to pay me back. One family gave me $50, another $25 and so
on. I was paid back quickly. I used those t-s for years! Since they didn't say
"choir" on them I also used them for other activities- recorder show or class
concerts, too. But mostly, they were reserved for the Show Choir.
Now I am
at a new school. This school has a really nice school t-shirt that says,
California Distinguished School on it, the school name and an American flag
motif. I asked each choir student as a condition of joining the choir to buy a
school t-shirt. The PTA sells them to us for only $7. I figure this is
something they can always wear, whether they stay in our group or not. Kids
wear black pants or skirt and this t-shirt. It looks great for patriotic shows
but nice at any time of year because it is our school colors. Best of all,
everyone matches and they fit! However, I will emphasize that this is
elementary choir and not middle school. The middle and high groups I've seen
wear snappy dressed with sequins. My kids are always SO IMPRESSED with those
show choir dresses. So flirty! The boys always have tuxes on. My guess is that
students who want to join the choir have to help come up with the money and
that they also ask for donations or do fund raisers to afford
them!
-----------------------
6/01 Eagle Choir. We wear a white T shirt
with a blue treble clef and red writing in the treble clef saying "Eagle
Choir." Depending on the performance we either wear black slacks or blue
jeans.
-----------------------
6/01 My fifth grade Orff group is called
the "Scat Cats". Our school mascot is a cat. I can't tell you though, how many
parents have asked me what "scat" means! We wear blue-toned tie-dyed t- shirts
with our school name on them and jeans. You can't miss us! Show choir: Plain
colored T-shirts with some sequins sewn around the sleeves, collar, and or
bottom make really cool outfits that are comfortable and cheap. Black
pants/skirt are fine for the bottoms.
-----------------------
6/01 For
my after school groups' concerts, we have a T-shirt that is identical for both
groups and wear some form of blue jeans, shorts or long pants, depending on
the time of year. I wear the same thing!
-------------------------
I
started a "Northwest Children's Chorale" last year and we wore white tops and
dark bottom for our first concert --- very formal and fun. But, we have a
"screen printing" T-shirt factory nearby and for $7.50 we got purple tshirts
with our logo and name in white. I sent notes home first and asked parents
what they thought of personally buying these. 47 out of 50 were enthused and
ready to send money. Those who couldn't afford it marked a box on my note and
I asked our local PTO to cover their shirts which they were glad to do. The
shirts held up beautifully and the kids loved wearing them. Great advertising
for the group. However, more than one kid lost theirs or forgot to wear it, so
I swore I was going to keep them between concerts this year, but I know I
won't. After all, they do own them. I'll just have to train them better. How
can you lose a bright purple tshirt? By the way, I let the kids chose from
several colors.
--------------------------
Easy flapper headbands:
posterboard headbands (strips approx. 2 inches in the forehead area with 1
inch sides that wrap around head). cover forehead area with glitter or
feathers. fasten by taping ends together. so cute!!! and so
easy!!
-----------------------
Easy felt bow ties to fit anyone: cut a
skinny, long strip of felt to use for the strap. for more durable ties, cut a
little wider, fold it over and sew it down so it's doubly thick. cut two small
rectangles. cut one 4 1/2 " x 2 1/2 " and the other the same then trim off
1/2" off the length of one of them. use that for the middle band that holds it
together. lay the shorter one on top of the longer one. sinch together in the
middle and secure by sewing the tiny band around the middle. glue to the
middle of strap with a big blob of craft glue.
-----------------------
I
also use these bow ties for choir concerts (boys wear white, collared shirts
and tie the bowtie on), and have made red ones for Christmas, blue ones for
Hanukkah. So easy and versatile! each year i add a color to my costume
pile.
---------------------------------
We have done the black bottom,
white top and you still get a million variations on a theme. I'm thinking
about nice chorus shirts. My chorus is after school so parents have to have
enough interest to be sure the child has a ride. Those people will be sure
he/she purchases a shirt. The middle school band has shirts and sweat shirts
the kids purchase and they're sort of a status symbol.
When we went to the
nursing home in May, I had the kids wear school t-shirts if they had them with
khaki shorts. The husband of our media person runs a small factory that
embroiders insignia on the shirts so that is set up already for one school.
They were able to sell good quality t-shirts for $10.00 and still make a
profit at the school. I'm going for the polo (golf) shirts.... My chorus at
that school comprises 20% of the student body and is for 3-5, so you can
figure 40% of the eligible kids
joined.
-----------------------
...Instead of having my chorus t-shirts
screen printed, we decided to sponge paint our own...I purchased the blank
t-shirts from a distributer and fabric paint from a craft store I bought plain
old sponges from the grocery store and cut them with the Ellison Die
Cutters...If you smash the sponges really flat and put them in the die cutting
machines, you can cut some perfect sponges. All of the kids were able to
sponge paint their own design with the music symbol sponges....and I wrote the
chorus name across the front...I am no longer at this school, but I have heard
that the kids still enjoy wearing the shirts. It was a time consuming project,
but very worth it. They had uniform for every concert...that looked nice and
it was a great team building activity......I want to do this again this coming
year........
-----------------------
Hi everyone...School's out, and its
great..now if it would just stop raining. I have a few ideas for choir or
program outfits. We have a childrens choir at our school, and have a set
uniform-we buy black uniform slacks and white polo shirts from a uniform
catalogue, and we have some really cool vests that the moms made two years
ago. The kids turn the vests in each year, but take care of their own pants
and shirt.....so far, the vests are really doing well-the only problem is that
we would like a few more, and can't get any more of the fabric. It was time
consuming at first, but it has been a good long term
solution.
-----------------------
I teach in a parochial school, and we
sometimes have programs with Biblical themes..when we do I often tell all the
students to just wear solid colors, and I have about 100 (or so)
"headpieces"...you know...the shepherd type of thing-it works well at giving
the effects with a minimum of work.
-----------------------
When we did
a "jonah and the whale" program , I had the kids all wear solid blue or green
shirts-I didn't realize how vey effective it was until I saw some pictures
that parents had taken....and it really looked great! We also do the "red,
green, and white" thing at Christmas, and that can also be very
effective.
-----------------------
Our fifth graders have a big show in
the spring....this year we did a lot of Disney songs....and the kids came up
with the idea of sponge painting a T shirt.....with black dots.....and we had
a bunch of puppies! We have done tie dye, too, but it doesn't seem quite as
spectacular. One of my favorite was a "glitzy" costume...we started with black
T shirts for both the boys and girls, and the girls glued sequins and fake
jewls on theirs, while we did an iron on tux for the boys....a white V shaped
piece, with an iron on bowtie, and sequins for buttons- they looked really
sharp too...we did birght color bow ties.
-----------------------
The
one thing I have decided about uniform, costumes, whatever....is simple is
best, and bright colors seem to consistently look the best.
I have two choirs - one for the little guys and one for the bigger kids.
The younger group is the Warford Singers (school name) and the older group is
the Rocket Choir (school mascot). We have t-shirts in solid colors with
different logos at pocket level. Singers have little notes surrounding the
name and Rocket Choir has a small rocket under the name. The kids love their
shirts and we wear them whenever we perform. Some of the parents ordered some
in very large adult sizes so they could wear them, too.
-----------------------
For the past 6 years I've had a seamstress make
vests and bow ties. The vests are red satin with wide silver lapels. The bows
are silver with red knot trim. The students wear long sleeve white button down
shirt/blouse and black dress pants.
-----------------------
I switched
to pants years ago because I kept getting girls in different shade of white
legs and it bothered me to look at it. Also kept getting different lengths of
skirts so I decided to go with the pants. Now everyone looks so
neat.
-----------------------
Children pay for their own vests (8.00)
and keep them. Some parents have even donated them before they leave for
middle school. I've decided to go with bow ties alone from now on since our
school has grown so much and ordering and measuring students for vest has
become tedious. These bow ties are going to be opposite, red with the silver
trim. They are about 6 inches across, oversized so they don't dissapear on
stage. Bow ties are 2.00 and is easier to collect that the 8.00.
